About 2.5 Sata Hard Drive

There are a wide variety of different hard drives available on the market. Firstly there are internal and external drives. Internal drives fit inside your computer or laptop and once fitted are not usually removed unless there is a problem with the hard drive. An external hard drive would typically be used for backing up files from your main computer or for transferring files between files computers.

External hard drives come in two different formats. Those which require an external power source are contain 3.5” drives and those which are powered by a single USB cable from the computer which contain a 2.5 sata hard drive. The 3.5” drive required a power supply and a USB cable for data transfer, the 2.5” drive only requires a single cable.

Internal hard drives also come in two different formats, again a 3.5” or 2.5 sata hard drive. Most computers use at least one 3.5” hard drive, while the 2.5 sata hard drives are used in laptops and small form computers.

There is also a range of smaller hard drives which are used in many MP3 and media players, however in recent years these have been replaced by solid state drives which have many advantages over the older drives. These are being used in many tablets, mobile phones and newer MP3 and media players.
